Sony has announced that the price of the PS5 will be increased in select territories around the world, namely Europe, UK, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, and Canada.

As posted on the PlayStation Blog, Jim Ryan leaves a short message for the fans, saying that this difficult decision was brought about by the events in the global economic environment.

“We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries,” says Ryan. “Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), as well as Canada.”

The US will not be affected by the PS5 price increase.

While the price increase has not been announced for the Philippines just yet, a footnote on the post says that “Select markets in EMEA, APAC, and LATAM not listed above may also receive price increases. Please check with your local retailer.
