Genshin Impact’s Version 4.0 Update Brings Fontaine on August 16

HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact Version 4.0 “As Light Rain Falls Without Reason” launches on August 16, 2023.

The update marks the entry of Fontaine, the fifth nation of Teyvat, along with additional features such as new adventures, gameplay modes, stories, and its first three playable characters.

Fontaine is the Nation of Justice and the hub of culture and art. Ruled by Focalors, the Hydro Archon and the God of Justice, this nation will offer a one-of-a-kind underwater adventure in some of its areas, allowing players to explore an underwater world thanks to a special blessing granted to them and will instead consume Aquatic Stamina when sprinting.

In Fontaine, players will face new and treacherous bosses, the first of which features a dancing clockwork meka duo in the “Icewind Suite.” Another boss, the heavily Armored Crablord “Emperor of Fire and Iron,” not only possesses the defense ability of an iron crab but can also unleash vicious Pyro attacks through its organs.

In order to visit Fontaine, a Teleport Waypoint to the northeast of the Sumeru desert will be unlocked if players have completed Mondstadt’s Archon Quest Prologue Act III: “Song of the Dragon and Freedom.

The Genshin Impact 4.0 update will also introduce three new playable characters – siblings Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet.

Lyney, the eldest, is a famous magician in Fontaine. A five-star archer, he can perform Pyro magic tricks, transform into a Grin-Malkin Cat, and launch fireworks in combat.

Lyney’s best assistant and little sister, Lynette, will be also joining the game as a four-star Anemo character who wields a sword. This low-profile assistant can approach enemies with disconcerting speed and can be invited to the team for free by players above Adventure Rank 25 in the latest seasonal event.

Completing the trio is the youngest sibling, Freminet, an exceptional diver debuting as a four-star Claymore user, with expertise in wielding the fully-pressurized Pers to launch Cryo and Physical attacks.

For Version 4.0 Event Wishes, Lyney, Lynette, and Yelan’s rerun will be available in the early half, and the latter half will see Zhongli and Tartaglia’s reruns, and Freminet’s debut.

Additionally, the official Genshin Impact Game Art Exhibition “Endless Adventure in Teyvat: Fontaine Edition” will first premiere on August 19 in New York, Paris, Taipei, and Tokyo before it goes virtual online in 15 languages.

This exhibition will feature a showcase of the behind-the-scenes development history of Fontaine, the Nation of Justice, from developers and artists, showing hundreds of never-before-seen concept art, sketches, draft designs, developer notes, models, miniatures, and figurines.

The Genshin Impact Art Exhibition will also feature fan art from over 40 artists and content creators including illustrator and graphic artist Solène Debiès, sumi-e artist Yu-Ki Nishimoto, artist Yuzhi Zhou, and contemporary painter Maxence Ma.

The Genshin Impact Art Exhibition “Endless Adventure in Teyvat: Fontaine Edition” opens on August 19 and while admission is free, online pre-registration is strongly recommended.
