Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia has revealed new details about the gameplay of Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections and the much-anticipated special story mode that features Boruto.

Here are some of the features that players can expect from Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections:

In Battle mode, players can choose from the largest roster in a Naruto game, with more than 130 characters and 10 new ones available. They will be able to use various combos when facing their opponents and even change their leader to keep the pressure on their opponent. Ninjutsu and Awakening will play an important part as well. From this game, players are able to pick up to 6 Ninjutsu abilities to gain an advantage against their opponents. They can also awaken into a new form that will grant them more power to turn the tide in their favour.

To try and finish the battle, players can use all their chakra and unleash a powerful Secret Technique which, when selecting specific characters, can turn into a Combination Secret Technique. The simple control mode is another new feature that will help newcomers to the franchise unleash powerful combos by pressing a single button. This new control style comes in addition to the standard style players of the STORM series have always known.

By fighting either solo or online, characters will level up and unlock additional customisations as well as other unlockable items, such as Finish scenes. Offline Free Battles will let players choose the way they want to fight against a computer or play an offline tournament. Players can then hone their skills against others around the world in Online mode, choosing between Casual Match and Ranked Match.

Additionally, more details about the Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections special story mode have been revealed. In the Special Story mode, a whole new story takes place during the events of BORUTO, where Boruto realizes a mysterious man, Merz, is trying to initiate the war.

During Tokyo Game Show 2023, we actually got to try out Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, giving us a sneak peek at what we can expect from the highly touted Special Story mode that stars Boruto in an original story that’s set to thrust him in the spotlight. While we can’t reveal too much in terms of actual events to avoid possible spoilers, the developers have revealed that putting Boruto as the main character in this mode is meant to bring Boruto and Naruto together in the same “universe,” despite their stark differences in terms of themes and overall seriousness.

In its entirety, Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections may be the latest game in the series, but it will be a familiar outing for those who have played previous installments. Despite the core gameplay remaining the same, the developers have added a simple control mode this time around, allowing players to pull off exciting combos with ease, with the objective of attracting newcomers but not at the cost of alienating enthusiasts.

Featuring its biggest roster of over 130 ninjas, the developers are looking to keep things fresher this time around by implementing some minor adjustments to existing characters like Mitsuki and Momoshi with new skills and techniques. Additionally, players will also be able to set two Ninjutsu techniques per match for added nuance and depth during actual combat.

Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections will be released on November 16 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Switch.
