More Rumored PS5 Pro Specs and Details Have Surfaced

After confirming the recent PS5 Pro documents leak and saying that the mid-gen refresh is tentatively slated for a Holiday 2024 release, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has now gone ahead and published more details about the rumored specs of the PS5 Pro.

Here’s a look at the latest details that have been revealed in 3 key areas – System Memory, CPU, and Audio:

System Memory

Standard PlayStation 5 – 448 GB/s (14 GT/s)
PlayStation 5 Pro – 576 GB/s (18GT/s) – A 28% increase over the standard console.

Henderson notes that the system memory of the Pro is more efficient, and therefore the 28% value provided may be understated.

CPU

In terms of the CPU, Henderson notes that both the base and Pro version of the PS5 will have identical CPU’s but exclusive to the Pro is a “High CPU Frequency Mode” that can clock it to 3.85GHz or a 10% increase.

It also bears noting that while in High CPU Frequency Mode, more power will be allocated to the CPU, resulting in 1% downgrade in GPU performance.

Audio

Henderson says that The ACV in the PS5 Pro runs at a higher clock speed, resulting in the ACM library having 35% more performance. This means that “more convolution reverbs can be processed” and “more FFT or IFFT can be processed.”

The GPU details, which have already been revealed, will have the following:

  • Rendering 45% faster than PS5
  • 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
  • 33.5 Teraflops
  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution
  • Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version
  • Custom machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point

Henderson makes an additional statement regarding BVH8 traversal shaders, saying that the Pro has “30 WGPs running specialized BVH8 traversal shaders vs 18 WGPs running BVH4 tranversal shaders on the standard PS5.”

Lastly, it is noted in the report that this PS5 Pro will also feature a detachable disc drive, which will make it identical to the recently refreshed PS5 Slim.

This is certainly a lot to unpack, especially with all the numbers and technical terms flying around. It bears saying that Sony has not commented nor announced anything official about this mid-gen refresh, but PS4 history dictates that a Pro version may indeed come sooner or later.
