Fear The Spotlight – Survival Guide

Fear The Spotlight captivates with its nostalgic atmosphere and engaging gameplay, blending survival horror with intricate puzzles. Drawing inspiration from classic titles like Clock Tower and Alone in the Dark, it offers a rich homage to retro survival horror.

However, it’s crucial to note that Fear The Spotlight aligns more closely with Clock Tower than Resident Evil. While the protagonist, Vivian, possesses significant agency, she cannot combat the primary antagonist, the Spotlight. Similar to the encounters with Scissorman in Clock Tower, when the Spotlight appears, survival becomes paramount.

To navigate the night and outwit this formidable adversary, we offer a guide filled with tips to bolster your confidence and enhance your survival skills against the true horror—the Spotlight itself.

Save Those Inhalers!

Vivian is an asthmatic teenager and being in a high stress situation such as avoiding the Spotlight will whittle down her lung capacity. If she gets caught by the Spotlight a couple of times, the third time will spell doom for her. There are five inhalers throughout the playthrough of Fear The Spotlight, so save them when you need them! Also, use them sparingly, and only when the lung capacity is at a dangerous level.

The Solution May Be In Another Room

Fear The Spotlight Puzzle

Fear The Spotlight highlights their fun but accessible puzzles. Just like many horror adventure games, you will be collecting items to solve some of these brainteasers. They’re not always in the same room, so remember that each area of the school that you’re exploring has an interconnected puzzle that will ultimately allow you to enter the next area. While there are dangers out there, we encourage you to explore all the rooms to get the bigger picture.

Switch off that Light!

You will be able to receive a flashlight later in Fear The Spotlight and it’ll be a godsend because the rooms are pretty dark. There’s a temptation to just leave the flashlight on to navigate the surroundings, but when Spotlight is around, remember to switch it off. The light attracts attention not only from Spotlight but from other unwanted entities…

Dealing With Spotlight

There are two ways that Spotlight makes its entrance. One is the actual spotlight shining through the ceiling, where they are shining a light that you will need to walk around from because getting caught by the light will damage Vivian. The other way is when Spotlight actually arrives in the same area as you and will be hunting you in the same room.

Once they cast their light on you, they will drag you to where they are, and you will get damaged. The good thing about this is that Spotlight will freeze in place, giving you extra time to run for the exit instead of sneaking around. Though I’d say use that strategy as a last resort as inhalers are scarce and three hits and you’re dead. I advise sneaking around.

Take Advantage of the Auto-Save

Every time you enter a new area, you will auto-save. While it is inconvenient that you can’t manually save, take advantage of this feature when you accidentally get damaged by Spotlight. You will restart from the last checkpoint and will be in full health. I’ve also used this feature when I’ve missed certain clues.

There you have it, happy hunting!
