‘Agni: Village of Calamity’ is an Extremely Impressive Cinematic Survival Horror
Agni: Village of Calamity is a cinematic survival horror experience set in a remote Indonesian village, where terror lurks beneath its unsettling beauty. Players assume the role of Agni, an investigator from a covert police unit who, defying protocol, embarks on an unauthorized mission. What she uncovers is far more horrifying than she ever imagined.
Developed by Separuh Interactive, a promising new studio, the game aims to elevate the survival horror genre with its immersive Southeast Asian setting. The studio is pushing the boundaries of Indonesian indie game development, fostering excitement among local developers while captivating a global audience.
Agni: Village of Calamity is a Horror Experience Inspired by Cinema and Gaming Icons
Reminiscent of films by Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves, Forbidden Door) and the unnerving intensity of Resident Evil VII, Agni: Village of Calamity merges cinematic horror with game design in a way that feels uniquely Indonesian. The trailer immediately sets the tone—Agni awakens in a gruesome slaughterhouse, surrounded by mutilated bodies. As she escapes the blood-soaked horrors, she glimpses a towering, ominous entity on the outskirts of town.
Creative director Leo Avero envisions Agni: Village of Calamity as a visceral horror experience tailored for mature audiences. Fans of atmospheric horror titles such as Silent Hill, Alan Wake, and Resident Evil VII will find themselves immersed in a psychological nightmare that explores the depths of human depravity.

The game embraces familiar survival horror conventions: navigating dilapidated houses, claustrophobic corridors, and unsettling fixed camera angles that amplify tension. Mechanics such as lockpicking, note collecting, and resource management help flesh out the experience, creating a deeply immersive world for genre enthusiasts.
One of the most intense sequences showcased involves Agni cautiously moving through a dimly lit, oppressive room, her lighter flickering against eerily lifelike mannequins. The motion capture animation heightens the uncanny valley effect, reinforcing the folk horror aesthetic.

True to the survival horror formula, Agni must solve puzzles while navigating the dangers of the village. Weapons, when found, provide a temporary means of defense, but weapon durability adds another layer of fear, forcing Agni to rely on her investigative instincts to uncover the truth, locate Lila, and escape with her life.
Players must also manage limited inventory space, carrying only what fits in Agni’s backpack. A Tetris-style inventory system ensures strategic decision-making in choosing which tools and resources to bring along.
At the heart of Agni: Village of Calamity is Algojo, The Executioner, the game’s relentless antagonist—a towering presence akin to Pyramid Head or Mr. X. This unkillable entity stalks Agni throughout her journey, forcing her to either hide, flee, or outsmart it in a desperate bid for survival.

Agni’s personal trauma appears deeply intertwined with the Village of Calamity, revealing dark truths buried within its cursed history. As she descends deeper into the madness, players must confront the horrors of both the village and her own mind.
Agni: Village of Calamity is currently under development and we look forward to its release in the future.
