PlayGround Games has announced that Fable is launching in Autumn 2026 for Xbox Series, PC via Steam, Xbox Cloud, and PS5. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
During the Developer Direct 2026, Playground Games finally released more details about Fable, confirming it as a full reboot of the beloved franchise. Game Director Ralph Fulton described it as a “new beginning,” allowing the team to craft their own version of Albion while staying true to the essence of the original trilogy.
Living Population of NPCs
One standout feature is the Living Population system. Over 1,000 NPCs have unique names, jobs, homes, and daily routines. They react dynamically to your actions, whether you’re generous, mischievous, or even a notorious “Chicken Chaser.”

Morality Reimagined
The classic good‑versus‑evil morality system of Fable has evolved. Instead of a linear scale, morality now depends on reputation, and actions witnessed by NPCs define how communities perceive you. If you decide to kick chickens, marry multiple villagers, or act generously, each settlement will form its own opinion, influencing shop prices, romance options, and social interactions.

Stylish Combat
Combat in Fable blends melee, ranged, and magic seamlessly, allowing players to fluidly chain sword strikes, arrows, and spells without interruption. Encounters emphasize tactical variety, with enemies possessing unique strengths and weaknesses.

Story and Exploration
In Fable, players begin as a child discovering their heroic powers, then jump to adulthood. The incident sees your village turned to stone by a mysterious stranger, setting you on a quest across Albion.
True to Fable tradition, the world is fully open, and you can pursue the main quest or simply settle down, marry, and live life in any settlement.
