Why the Price Hike?
Sony attributes the increase to the “global economic landscape”, citing rising manufacturing costs and skyrocketing memory prices. DRAM contract prices have reportedly surged by 170% year-over-year, putting additional pressure on console makers.
This marks the largest PS5 price increase since launch, following a smaller $50 hike in 2025. Analysts note that console prices are now higher than ever, with consumers facing tighter budgets due to inflation and cost-of-living challenges.
