Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Cuts Price, Removes Day One Call of Duty From the Service

In a nutshell

  • Game Pass Ultimate now $22.99/month (previously $29.99).
  • PC Game Pass reduced to $13.99/month (previously $16.49).
  • Future Call of Duty titles delayed on Game Pass, added about a year after launch.

Xbox has announced a major update to Game Pass pricing.

Xbox Game Pass Price Going Down

Starting today, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate drops to $22.99/month (from $29.99), while PC Game Pass lowers to $13.99/month (from $16.49). These reductions aim to make the service more accessible to a wider audience, though regional variations may apply.

In the Philippines, PC Game Pass is also reducing its price from PHP 320 to PHP 225/month.

Call of Duty is Out!

Alongside the price cuts, Xbox confirmed that future Call of Duty titles will no longer be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Instead, new entries in the franchise will join the service during the following holiday season, roughly a year after release. Current Call of Duty titles already in the library remain unaffected.

Despite this shift, subscribers will still enjoy access to hundreds of Xbox and PC games, day-one releases for other major titles, online console multiplayer, exclusive in-game benefits, and unlimited Xbox Cloud Gaming.

This is a tricky thing for Xbox to balance, because the acquisition of Activision was anchored in bringing titles like Call of Duty to the service as an incentive to gain more subscribers, but it seems the strategy has not worked. Will taking Call of Duty out of the service set a precedent for other first-party titles to leave the service, and will it also lower the price?
