SEGA has revealed a fresh look at STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, showcasing its opening cinematic, three explorable cities, and detailed showbiz management gameplay during the TGS 2026 Special Opening Night livestream.
The newly released footage gives players a glimpse into the story of protagonist Makoto Daito, whose journey begins when he leaves America for Japan.
Explore Three Distinct Japanese Cities Across Different Eras
One of the standout features of STRANGER THAN HEAVEN is its era-spanning world design. Exploration, dining, and entertainment activities directly influence character progression, affecting Daito’s stat growth and abilities. Each era also unfolds during a different season, giving locations their own unique atmosphere.
Players will visit three newly detailed cities:
Kokura, Fukuoka (1915)
A rapidly modernizing steel town, Kokura blends traditional Japanese architecture with industrial development. Players can spend their time arm wrestling, playing menko cards and beigoma tops, fishing by the river, exploring homes, or traveling via streetcar.

Kure, Hiroshima (1929)
This naval port city combines shipbuilding industry with a flourishing entertainment scene. Alongside familiar activities such as beigoma, players can unwind in bathhouses and participate in tehonbiki.

Minami, Osaka (1943)
Set against the backdrop of wartime Japan, Minami features bustling entertainment districts contrasted by dark back alleys and black-market establishments. The city serves as a key setting in Daito’s rise within the entertainment industry.

Showbiz Takes Center Stage
The latest reveal also highlighted Showbiz, a major gameplay system that runs throughout the entire story. After struggling to find his place in Japan, Daito discovers a talent for music and eventually evolves from performer to producer and talent manager.
Players will take on the role of a showman by advertising events, preparing songs, recruiting performers, and staging live productions. Meeting sales targets yields rewards while helping performers develop as the narrative progresses.
Throughout the game, players can mentor and produce more than ten singers, including Keiko Shirai, portrayed by Ado, and Suzie, portrayed by Tori Kelly.
Song creation is tied to an Inspiration mechanic, where players discover ideas by exploring the world. Daito collaborates with different composers in each era, unlocking new songs and arrangements based on collected inspirations. The game also includes an extensive arrangement system that allows players to customize instruments, tones, and musical styles.

STRANGER THAN HEAVEN – Multiple Difficulty Options Available
SEGA also confirmed that STRANGER THAN HEAVEN will feature Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty settings. Players who are less familiar with action games can equip the RGG Special Suit, a special item designed to boost Daito’s abilities.
