Saros: Zenith Update Now Available, Adds Boss Rush Mode, New Game+, Accessibility Features, and More

In a nutshell

  • The free Zenith update for Saros is available now for all players.
  • New features include Overlord Rush boss battles, Eclipse Layers New Game+, gameplay modifiers, and accessibility options.
  • Housemarque aims to make Saros more accessible to newcomers while adding replayability for veteran players.

Saros players have plenty of reasons to jump back into Carcosa today, as developer Housemarque has rolled out the Zenith Update, a free content update that introduces new ways to play for both newcomers and long-time fans of the game.

New Accessibility Options Make Saros More Approachable

One of the headline additions in the Zenith update is a suite of accessibility features designed to help more players enjoy Saros’ intense bullet-ballet combat.

Among these is the new Slow Game Speed option, which allows players to reduce gameplay speed and gain extra time to react to incoming attacks. Rather than reducing enemy projectiles or simplifying encounters, the feature preserves the game’s core combat design while making it easier to process what’s happening on screen. Players can customize the degree of slowdown and even choose whether it activates automatically during combat.

Another useful addition is Auto-fire, which automatically fires weapons when aiming at hostile targets. While reloading still requires player input and timing, the feature reduces the number of actions players need to manage during hectic encounters. Combined with new Motion Sensor Aiming support and existing button remapping options, players now have more ways to tailor the experience to their needs.

Expanded Modifier System Adds More Ways to Customize Gameplay

The Zenith update also significantly expands the game’s Carcosan Modifier system. Players can now choose from 10 new Protection Modifiers that make the experience more forgiving, alongside 10 new Trial Modifiers that increase the challenge.

One example highlighted by Housemarque is the Corruption Melee Enhancement modifier, which transforms accumulated Corruption into bonus melee damage. On the opposite end of the spectrum, modifiers such as Hostile Regeneration make combat encounters more demanding by requiring players to finish stunned enemies with melee attacks.

Eclipse Layers Introduces New Game+

Veteran players looking for a fresh challenge can dive into Eclipse Layers, Saros’ new take on New Game+. After completing the game, players unlock mysterious new Armor Matrix nodes that grant access to increasingly difficult versions of Carcosa with altered rules and modifier requirements.

Players must reach a modifier threshold before starting each Eclipse Layer run, encouraging experimentation with different combinations of Trial Modifiers. With 25 Trials available, Housemarque says players will have plenty of opportunities to customize their experience while creating unique challenge runs.

Adding an extra layer of progression, Arjun can earn a golden Crown that grows in size and splendor based on the number of active modifiers. The Crown also unlocks access to collectible story content known as Visions, which reveal additional lore hidden throughout Carcosa.

Overlord Rush Lets Players Battle Bosses Back-to-Back

Perhaps the most exciting addition for competitive players is Overlord Rush, a new boss rush mode accessible through the Primary Unit in Passage.

The mode tasks players with defeating Saros’ powerful Overlords as quickly as possible while competing for leaderboard rankings. Overlord Rush features multiple sets, including the shorter Incursion and Ascension challenges, as well as Totality, an extended gauntlet featuring all eight Overlords from the main game.

Leaderboard rankings can also be filtered by weapon type, allowing players to compete with others who favor the same loadout and master their preferred playstyle. Internet connectivity and a PlayStation account are required for leaderboard functionality
