Final Fantasy VII Revelation Lets Players Start on Hard Mode, Dynamic Mode Returns

In a nutshell
- Final Fantasy VII Revelation will allow players to select Hard Mode from the beginning of the game.
- Dynamic Mode, which scales enemy encounters alongside player progression, is making a return.
- Previous Hard Mode restrictions, including limitations on item usage, have been removed.
Fans looking for a greater challenge from the very beginning of their adventure will have something to look forward to in Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Speaking to Hardcore Gamer during Tokyo Game Show 2026, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that players will be able to select Hard Mode right from the start of the game, a significant change from both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, where the mode only became available after completing the main story.
Hard Mode Available From Day One
Previous entries in the remake trilogy positioned Hard Mode as an endgame challenge designed for experienced players. The mode typically imposed stricter mechanics, including restrictions on item usage, while demanding a deeper mastery of the combat system.
For Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix is taking a different approach. Players who want a tougher experience can jump straight into Hard Mode, while additional challenges will still await those who complete the main story.
Dynamic Mode Makes Its Return in Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Hamaguchi also confirmed that Dynamic Mode will return in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. This difficulty setting adjusts encounters based on character progression, helping maintain a balanced level of challenge throughout the adventure.
Additionally, the development team has removed the item-use restrictions that characterized the Hard Modes of previous titles, giving players more flexibility when tackling the game’s toughest encounters.

FITS System Influences Difficulty Design
According to Hamaguchi, the growing number of combat mechanics, including cooperative abilities and the newly introduced FITS system, required the team to rethink how difficulty is balanced.
While characters will maintain their established combat identities, the FITS system allows players to modify their roles to better suit different party setups and strategies, opening the door for more customized team compositions
