E3 2022 Completely Canceled, Now Focused On 2023 Showcase

Following a report that the industry show might be going full-digital this year, it has now been confirmed that E3 2022 is completely canceled and won’t be holding any kind of event, digital or in-person, later this year.

The report comes from IGN (via a tweet by Will Powers), now saying that they have independently confirmed the cancellation of the said event. The organizers have offered a statement, saying that they are preparing for an “all-new format and interactive experience.”

“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer.

Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.”

Seeing its troubles for the past couple of years, it isn’t hard to believe that the event is being canceled this year, especially since Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and many others have been doing their own online shows to great success. It would then be interesting to see how the ESA plans to revitalize the show for next year.

Waiting in the wings though is Geoff Keighley, who has since announced that his own Summer Game Fest will be pushing through in June.

Do you think this is the beginning of the end for E3 as an industry show?
