Bluepoint Games Reportedly Pitched a Bloodborne Remake but FromSoftware Declined

In a nutshell

  • Bluepoint Games pitched a Bloodborne remake in 2025, but FromSoftware rejected the idea.
  • Sony canceled Bluepoint’s God of War live-service project, leaving the studio without a clear direction.
  • After years without a new project, Sony shut down Bluepoint in February 2026, ending its acclaimed run of remakes.

After years of fans hoping for a Bloodborne remake but not getting one, a new report sheds light on the situation.

The Bloodborne Remake That Never Happened

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Bluepoint pitched the idea of a Bloodborne remake in early 2025. After the success of their Demon Souls remake, Sony reportedly agreed the numbers made sense, but FromSoftware declined, with insiders suggesting president Hidetaka Miyazaki didn’t want another studio touching the game. PlayStation respected that decision, effectively shutting down Bluepoint’s most promising project.

Early this year, former Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida explained in an interview why he thinks Sony hasn’t done anything with the remake, and said the company wants to respect Miyazaki because he really treasures his creation and doesn’t want anyone else touching it.

The God of War Live-Service Gamble

The report also offers insight into the events that led to Bluepoint Games’ closure.

After assisting Santa Monica Studio on God of War Ragnarok (2022), Bluepoint was tasked with creating its first original title under PlayStation. Sony pushed for a live-service game set in the God of War universe, centered on Atreus in Hades. However, the project struggled because Bluepoint lacked experience in live-service design. By January 2025, Sony canceled the game, leaving the studio searching for its next move.

No Clear Path Forward

Bluepoint attempted other pitches, including a Shadow of the Colossus update and a Ghost of Tsushima spinoff, but none were greenlit. By February 2026, with no projects secured and Sony announcing a God of War trilogy remake without Bluepoint, the studio’s fate was sealed.
