2K and Gearbox Software have announced that Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned will launch on March 26, 2026.
The expansion introduces a brand-new Vault Hunter named C4SH the Rogue, a gambler bot armed with a magical deck of cards that can unleash unpredictable spells. Players will also explore The Whispering Glacier, a chilling new zone steeped in cosmic-horror themes, complete with derelict ships, grotesque landscapes, and eldritch enemies.
Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1 Overview
The DLC’s storyline follows Ellie, daughter of Moxxi, as she leads Vault Hunters on a mission to destroy an alien monolith tied to the mysterious Vault of the Damned. Along the way, familiar faces like Mancubus Bloodtooth, Pickle, and Crazy Earl return, adding layers of humor and chaos to the eerie narrative.
The Whispering Glacier will challenge players with two major bosses, 16 minibosses, and a new World Boss mechanic that transports adventurers into nightmarish dimensions.

New Gear and New Vault Hunter
Loot hunters can expect plenty of rewards, including three Pearlescent weapons, 11 new Legendary gear pieces, and 28 cosmetic items ranging from Vault Hunter skins to vehicle upgrades. To complement the DLC, Gearbox is rolling out a shared progression system, ensuring map progress, SDU tokens, cosmetics, and activity unlocks carry across all characters.

Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1 is available through the Super Deluxe Edition or as part of the Vault Hunter Pack, while Standard and Deluxe Edition owners can purchase it individually. Fans won’t have to wait long for more as Gearbox has confirmed a C4SH gameplay reveal on March 16, followed by free content updates including Raid 2 in April and a Takedown event in May.
