Netflix has officially begun production on its highly anticipated live-action Assassin’s Creed series, set in Ancient Rome in 64 A.D. Directed by Johan Renck (Chernobyl), the show promises an original storyline that dives deep into the eternal conflict between Assassins and Templars.
According to a report by Variety, filming kicked off at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios on March 9, with production scheduled to run until October 16, 2026. A release window is currently eyed for 2027 on Netflix.

Alongside previously announced stars like Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Claes Bang, Noomi Rapace, Sean Harris, and Nabhaan Rizwan, Netflix revealed new additions to the ensemble:

The series will unfold against the dramatic setting of Rome in 64 A.D., the year of the Great Fire of Rome. Emperor Nero’s controversial role in the disaster provides fertile ground for intrigue, betrayal, and the shadow war between factions vying for humanity’s destiny.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Confirmed
Recently, Ubisoft has laid out its ambitious Assassin’s Creed roadmap for 2026, confirming a remake of Black Flag, along with other projects in the pipeline, including Hexe, a darker entry in the franchise; Jade, a mobile open-world adventure; and Invictus, a multiplayer-focused title aimed at expanding community play.
