Crunchyroll has announced that Sekiro: No Defeat, the fully hand-drawn anime adaptation of FromSoftware’s beloved action-adventure title, will begin streaming as a weekly series starting in January 2027.
Produced by KADOKAWA, Qzil.la, and ARCH, the anime will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. The anime will premiere as an eight-episode series featuring additional content beyond the theatrical version currently showing in Japan
A New Way to Experience Sekiro
Crafted with what the creators describe as “reverence for the original,” Sekiro: No Defeat adapts the acclaimed story of loyalty, blood, and sacrifice set in a fantastical interpretation of Sengoku-era Japan. The expanded episodic format aims to provide viewers with a deeper look at the journey of Wolf and Kuro beyond what was presented in theaters.
The project has already attracted attention on the festival circuit, screening as part of Annecy’s “Feature Films: Midnight Specials” program and making its North American premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival before its theatrical release in Japan.
Acclaimed Anime Talent Leads the Production
The series is directed by Kenichi Kutsuna, with Takuya Satou handling screenwriting duties and Takahiro Kishida serving as character designer. Additional key staff include Shunsuke Fukui as deputy director, Kaito Moki as chief animation director, and Takashi Mukoda as action animation director.
