Gamers who are in the Middle East may have a tough time acquiring a copy of The Last of Us 2, owing to the fact that it may have been banned.

As of writing, the game isn’t available for pre-order on the Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates regional storefronts. Interestingly enough, the PlayStation Saudi Arabia account is promoting the game, or at least reminding users of the upcoming State of Play, which will be focused on The Last of Us 2. For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 is still up for pre-orders on the said storefronts.

Another detail that possibly points to the game being banned in the region comes from Reddit user Ghostechful, who posted on r/DubaiGaming that they were replied to by a PlayStation Customer Support rep basically saying that the game is banned. You can view the thread here.

While there is no official word as to the situation and reason of doing so, it is a safe assumption that the themes of the game, which include sexual content and graphic violence among others, is the main culprit, which can also be seen in the E3 2018 trailer from way back.

Gamers in the region may need to resort to importing the game if they want a physical copy or create a new account altogether, so all is not lost.

The Last of Us 2 is scheduled to release on June 19 exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
