‘Big’ PlayStation Remake rumored to be announced in December, potentially leaked by Irish singer-songwriter

More rumors are incoming as a “big” PlayStation remake is apparently in the works and is set to be announced in December, if a recent interview is to be believed.

As spotted by Gematsu, Irish singer-songwriter Eabha McMahon, also known as AVA, seemingly let slip that she had written a song for a PlayStation game during an October 7 interview with Irish radio program, The Lunchbox (12:00 – 13:00 timeslot).

You can view the quote below as taken from Gematsu:

“Yeah, so that actually happened about a year and half—it was just after the pandemic hit. Michael McGlynn got in touch and just said, ‘Listen, we’re writing music for a remake of a PlayStation game’—and he’s done that a lot, he’s done a lot of writing for different games that are very well known. But I’m actually not a gamer myself.

So anyway, he says, ‘Look, it’s an Irish language piece that they’re looking for.’ So really what I was involved with was the lyric writing in the Irish language, and his daughter sang on the track and his wife arranged part of the choral parts, and so did Michael. And he also worked with me on the language side of things, so it was almost like a family effort.

“For ages I wasn’t allowed to really—you don’t know what you’re writing for, it’s all kind of undisclosed because they don’t want it to get out. So it’s actually going to be announced at Christmas—the name of the game. I have heard of it now and I have confirmed it is a big game, which is great! It’s going to be an Irish language piece in the game, which is brilliant.”

Michael McGlynn is an Irish composer and founder of the vocal ensemble Anúna, who has worked previously with Yasunori Mitsuda on a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 track, fueling rumors of the remake being a Mitsuda-related title. Xenogears and Chrono Trigger / Chrono Cross immediately come to mind.

On the other hand, one could argue that there could be a Metal Gear Solid connection since the ending theme to the game is Irish, which is the language of the song AVA and McGlynn worked on.

In the interview, it was mentioned that the game was going to be announced during Christmas, where AVA looked it up and confirmed it to be a “big game”, so it could maybe coincide with a reveal during The Game Awards on December 9, where PlayStation could have a presence in the show.

Reports of a Metal Gear Solid remake for the PlayStation have been making the rounds as well, which could probably be connected.

As always, rumors are to be taken with a grain of salt, but if this proves to be true, then there could be something big to look forward to later this year.
