Here’s how you upgrade your PS4 games to the PS5
As the release of the PlayStation 5 approaches, Sony has been releasing bits and pieces of information to answer our burning questions about the topic, like the small number of PS4 games that will not work on the PS5.
Another topic we know more of now is about those game upgrades that we’ve been hearing about for quite a while now. Just how do you get those “next-gen upgrades”? Ask no more, here’s how you upgrade your PS4 games to the PS5.
In a post on the PlayStation Support page, Sony have released a rather simple step by step guide to upgrading your PS4 games to their respective PS5 versions. Of course it goes without saying that you’ll be doing this process on your brand new PS5 console come November.
If you have a disc-based PS4 game:
*You will obviously need a PS5 Standard edition and not the Digital edition
- Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console (or create an account).
- Insert the eligible PS4 game disc.
- Go to the game hub for the PS4 game.
- Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
- Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
- After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 digital game by inserting the PS4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.
If you have a digital PS4 game:
*You can use either the Standard edition or a Digital edition PS5
- Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console.
- Find the PS5 game in PlayStation Store, or by Search, and go to the game hub for the PS5 game.
- Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
- Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
- After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 game.
Some of these upgrades will be free of charge like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Marvel’s Avengers. Some upgrades may require additional cost such as Spider-Man Remastered. That said, an internet connection is required to download these next-gen upgrades for your PS5.
That was simple, wasn’t it?
