Yu Yu Hakusho’s Live-action Adaptation From Netflix Reveals its Yusuke
Netflix is coming up with a live-action adaptation of the hit manga and anime series Yu Yu Hakusho and today, the actor playing the star of the show was finally revealed.
Through an exclusive reveal by IGN, the main character of the show, Yusuke Urameshi, will be played by none other than Takumi Kitamura. Kitamura is a Japanese actor and singer also known for his performance of Takemichi Hanagaki from the Tokyo Revengers film.
This live-action adaptation from Netflix will present a “new version” of the 1990 manga, which tells the story of Yusuke who died and is brought into the afterlife as an underworld detective.

Speaking to IGN, Kitamura says that “The original work is a universal and unique masterpiece and a reason why Japan is so proud of its strong manga and anime culture. I am happy to share the masterpiece of Yu Yu Hakusho with the world and I hope we can create something people everywhere will enjoy.”
Director Sho Tsukikawa also tells IGN that “When I first heard about Yu Yu Hakusho receiving a live-action adaptation, I honestly wondered if it would even be possible—but after being presented with the producer’s vision and possibilities with Netflix, my expectations grew and I found myself burning with passion to make this project come to life.”
The Yu Yu Hakusho live-action adaptation from Netflix is scheduled to be released in December 2023.
