If you love Videogame Soundtracks, you owe it to yourself to catch Melody Road
Most everyone knows about the games through their story, graphics, or any other component that makes a game successful. One often ignored aspect of a videogame is the soundtrack which definitely shouldn’t be the case. The recent concert held at the Ayala Museum is an encouraging sign that videogame concerts are well received in the local community so this December, another group known as the Radical Dreemers (Chrono Cross represent!) will be performing their brand of music in a concert known as Melody Road!
To be held at the Axon, Green Sun Hotel over at Chino Roces Avenue, Melody Road is led by Music Director Frances Fernando and they’ll be featuring some very well known tracks from our favorite games, peep the set list below!
- Scars of Time – Chrono Cross
- Dreamwatch of Time – Chrono Cross
- Plants Vs Zombies Medley – Plants vs Zombies
- Stage 1 and 2 – Circus Charlie
- Overworld Theme – Super Mario World
- Gothic Neclord – Suikoden 2
- Opening – Suikoden 2
- Title Theme – Harvest Moon Back to Nature
- One Winged Angel – Final Fantasy 7
- Liberi Fatali – Final Fantasy 8
- Waltz for the Moon – Final Fantasy 8
- Odeka De Chocobo – Final Fantasy 8
- Melodies of Life – Final Fantasy 9
- To Zanarkand – Final Fantasy 10
- Hymn of Fayth – Final Fantasy 10
- Suteki Da Ne – Final Fantasy 10
- Somnus – Final Fantasy 15
At first glance, you’ll immediately notice that the group knows their soundtracks. Fantastic soundtracks tend to come from RPG’s, and the ones that they have chosen really hit the spot. The best part about this? According to Frances, all tracks they will be playing have been coordinated with the license holders and they in turn have acquired the necessary licenses to perform all of these tracks for the upcoming concert! It’s one thing to perform various tracks but getting the proper clearance is a necessary step to promote legitimate events like this here in the Philippines.
One more interesting tidbit about the performance is that this will be a recital styled performance, meaning there will be no conductor to call the shots. Also, this is the first time they’ll be featuring a chorus to accompany the instruments for various tracks.
During a closed door preview, the group treated the press to a few tracks, most notable ones were One Winged Angel and Liberi Fatali, and while it was only a practice run, they mostly have the full track performance ready and the choir, despite being only a handful compared to the instruments, are more than capable of carrying the piece into perfection.
I was left wanting more after the Ayala Museum performance by the Manila Symphonic and seeing the set list from Melody Road was enough to get me hyped. I love my RPG soundtracks and while I would have wished for more from the likes of Xenogears and Chrono Trigger, we can only expect good things from Melody Road as their December concert approaches.
Check out their website and be sure to purchase tickets now as these will run out fast! We’ll see you there!
