International Red Cross partners with Fortnite for Liferun game mode
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has partnered with Fortnite to raise awareness and support for victims of violence and conflict with Liferun mode. Fortnite streamers DrLupo, Lachlan, and One_shot_Gurl featured the game mode at PAX South Arena in San Antonio, Texas.
The new creative game mode is unlike any other as players put themselves in the shoes of a Red Cross worker. Yup, it flips the typical Fortnite experience on its head. From trying to take down opponents to competing to heal civilians, rebuild infrastructure, and demine as well as distribute aid as fast as possible in an urban warfare scenario.
It was developed by Team Evolve alongside Wunderman Thompson and the ICRC. It was presented at PAX together with the American Red Cross.
The ICRC looks to reach out to the gaming community through Liferun to try to spark conversations about its work in the world’s worst conflict zones.
“Video games represent a huge opportunity to spread the word about the importance of the laws of armed conflict and how they are designed to protect the most vulnerable in conflict zones. This mode that we have co-developed is our first foray into creative modes on Fortnite,” Jennifer Hauseman, director of Communications and Information Management at the ICRC said in a statement.
This isn’t the first time the ICRC has partnered with a game development team. They previously worked with Bohemia Interactive for Arma 3 to create awareness through messaging and gameplay about international humanitarian law.
Players can access the mode through creative mode and the code found on the official website.
