Sony officially confirms and acquires Bluepoint Games
Following the recent acquisition announcements like that of Housemarque, Nixxes, and Firesprite, Sony has gone on to announce that Bluepoint Games, masters of remasters and remakes like Demon’s Souls, is now part of the PlayStation family.
As announced on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst finally welcomes the Texas-based studio to the family, saying that the team “has raised the bar on console-defining visuals and gameplay, and the studio’s vast expertise in world building and character creation will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studios properties.“
Both have had a long working relationship with each other and most may see this merely as a formality.
Months ago, the PlayStation Japan Twitter account accidentally uploaded a different image during the Housemarque announcement, referencing the acquisition, almost making it one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry.
The company has made some small but key acquisitions recently, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see them make more in the months and years to come to bolster their already strong first-party offerings. It would be interesting to see now what Bluepoint will be working on next.
