Kena: Bridge of Spirits has already recouped development costs, Sony reportedly happy
Kena: Bridge of Spirits turned out to be a really good surprise from Sony, thanks to the talented people from Ember Lab. It was one game that, while not from a big-time developer, was highly anticipated ever since it was announced.
Its launch proved to be magic, garnering a Metacritic score of 80 from critics. For a first-time outing from Ember Lab, 80 is phenomenal and as such, a Bloomberg interview with studio heads Josh and Mike Grier reveals that the game has already sold well enough to recoup development costs.
While the Griers don’t say exactly how many copies have been sold, saying “Sony’s happy” is quite telling of the success of the game.
Further in the interview, the Griers go on to say that they are now a full-time game development company and while they are not yet sure of what their next game will look like, they know that it will be another narrative-driven adventure similar to Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
It’ll be exciting to see what the talented devs at Ember Lab can do next, and see if Sony or Microsoft try to scoop them up for their next effort.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is now available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.
