All-new PlayStation Plus – Everything You Need to Know
The all-new PlayStation Plus is now available across Asia, and players are having a field day with the latest benefits that the higher tiers provide, giving access to a wide catalog of games from PS1 classics to PS4 and PS5 titles.
There are still quite a number of players that might not have heard of this update, so the PlayStation Blog has posted a lengthy guide to the revamped service and we’ll lay it out for you here as well. We’ve picked out the most common questions that players will have and placed them down below for easy reference.
All-new PlayStation Plus – Everything You Need to Know
When, Where, What, and How Much?
The all-new PlayStation Plus is now available in Asia and will be available across other regions in the coming month. The launch schedule is as follows:
- Japan, targeting June 2, 2022
- North and South America, targeting June 13, 2022
- Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, targeting June 23, 2022
The new service will be divided into 3 tiers – PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Deluxe / Premium. Current PS Plus subscribers will automatically transition to PS Plus Essential and can choose to upgrade to Extra or Deluxe/Premium easily.

PlayStation Plus Premium will be available in the following markets – Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Game Update Schedule and System Compatibility
New games for the service will be introduced every month across all tiers. Players can expect an announcement from Sony every month detailing the new changes to the lineup.
PlayStation Plus Essential
- New PS4 and PS5 games every month for the PlayStation Plus Essential plan (and both higher tiers) will take effect on the first Tuesday of the month – the same as what PlayStation Plus members have been used to.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium
- Another monthly update will occur in the middle of the month for new games across PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans. The number of games will vary per month.
The all-new PlayStation Plus is supported on PS4, PS5, and PC, with some games allowing for downloads and some for streaming.
Download (PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium)
- Original PlayStation, PSP, PS4, and PS5 games are available for download to play.
- Remastered or remake versions of PS2 and PS3 games will also be downloadable for play on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
Streaming (PlayStation Plus Premium only)
- Original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PSP games are available for streaming through the Premium plan, available in select markets. This includes streaming access to titles from the games catalog offered in Extra and Premium plans.
- Please note streaming access for some titles, including classic games, will occur after launch for the PlayStation Premium plan. Streaming availability may also vary by title. Streaming is also not available for PS5 titles.
- Games can be streamed on PS4 and PS5 consoles and PC.
For PC streaming, please note the following system requirements:
Minimum Specs:
- Windows 7 (SP 1), 8.1 or 10
- Core i3 2.0 GHz
- 300 MB of available storage
- 2 GB of RAM
- Sound card; USB port
Recommended Specs:
- Windows 7 (SP 1), 8.1 or 10
- 3.5 GHz Intel Core i3 or 3.8 GHz AMD A10 or faster
- 300 MB or more of available storage
- 2 GB or more of RAM
- Sound card; USB port
Trophy Support, Save File Transfers, and DLCs
Some PlayStation and PSP titles such as Ape Escape, Wild Arms, and Syphon Filter will have trophy support and this feature is an optional ask from the developers.
Players can also purchase the DLC of certain titles that are included in the Extra and Deluxe/Premium tiers and will be available for use along with the base game. DLCs will not be supported for streaming titles.
Games on Extra and Deluxe/Premium tiers can be played offline but you’ll need to connect to PSN every seven days to validate your PlayStation Plus membership and maintain your access to the game.
Game trials from Deluxe/Premium will allow for carryover of progress and trophies when the full game is eventually purchased.
The all-new PlayStation Plus is now available in Asia, with a regional roll-out across the rest of the world coming in the next month.
