Persona 5 Royal Won’t Have a Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade
Atlus has posted an FAQ for the upcoming release of Persona 5 Royal, which confirms that PS4 owners of the game won’t have the option to upgrade to the PS5 version for free. Instead, players will need to purchase the PS5 version of the game separately.
For reference, you can check out the full list of questions below, courtesy of Persona Central:
Q. I have never played a “Persona” game. Can I enjoy playing Persona 5 Royal?
A. You can start with Persona 5 Royal without issue. (Of course, if you enjoy Persona 5, we would be very happy if you would play the previous titles as well.)
Q. Can I play Persona 5 Royal even if I haven’t played Persona 5?
A. Persona 5 Royal is the latest version of Persona 55, with many additional elements that were not in the original release. It is content that both those who have not player Persona 5 as well as those who have can enjoy.

A. The main differences between both games are as follows:
A new story (the previously unseen “Third semester”), with new characters added (Kasumi Yoshizawa, Takuto Maruki).
The ability to watch event scenes, animations, background music, and illustrations in-game, through the cognitive world of “My Palace” where you can talk with characters you come across while playing.
Downloadable content such as costume changes and challenge battles with the Persona 3 protagonist and the Persona 4 protagonist.
Q. If I have purchased the PlayStation 4 version of Persona 5 Royal, can I upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game?
A. We apologize, but there are no products for PlayStation 4 purchasers of Persona 5 Royal for this title. We would appreciate it if you could purchase Persona 5 Royal for PlayStation 5 to play the game on PS5.

A. The PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
Q. Is there a limited edition release?
