The Last of Us Part II Remastered Launches on January 2024, Adds New Roguelike Survival Mode
Sony and Naughty Dog have announced that The Last of Us Part II Remastered is coming to the PS5 on January 19, 2024.
Originally released in 2020, this version of the game will be the definitive way to play, offering players “technological improvements, new modes, and new behind-the-scenes features that will deepen your understanding of Part II’s creation.”
Brand new “No Return” mode
One of the biggest new features of The Last of Us Part II Remastered is the “No Return” mode, which is a roguelike survival mode designed to let players prove their mettle in randomized encounters.
There will be a number of playable characters to choose from, like Lev and Dina, with some being playable for the first time in the franchise, and they will all come with their own traits that will emphasize playstyle variety.
Players will face various stealth and combat encounters that will offer rewards after each that will allow for character upgrades. By playing, more skins and characters can be unlocked, and the mode will also include a global leaderboard for competitive players.
Guitar Free Play Mode
The Last of Us Part II Remastered will also offer a guitar free play mode, allowing players to choose between several unlockable instruments, use audio FX pedals for performance modulation, and play as different characters across various in-game locations.
Lost Levels and Developer Commentary
The Last of Us Part II Remastered will also feature Lost Levels, which is a look at playable sequences that were never finished and previously cut from the game. This is a great way to look at early development slices that give players new glimpses of the world and also include developer commentary.
Newly recorded commentary featuring Neil Druckmann, Halley Gross, Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey will be included.
