Helldivers 2 Mandatory PSN Linking No Longer Happening
In a nutshell
- Over the weekend, Sony announced that Helldivers 2 players on Steam will be forced to connect a PSN account to continue playing
- The decision caused a massive uproar in the community, leading to negative reviews and a delisting of the game across 177 countries
- Now, Sony has announced that the mandate to require linking Steam and PSN accounts is no longer moving forward
After a barrage of negative reviews for the game and the many players making their voices heard over the weekend, Sony has now announced that the mandatory linking of PSN accounts for new and current Helldivers 2 players will no longer happen.
The announcement has been shared by Sony over their social media pages, breaking the deafening silence over the weekend and causing much confusion and anxiety in the community.
“Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.”
“We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”
At the moment, it’s hard to think of what those future plans could be, but for now, players can get back to Helldiving at their own leisure.
While it took longer than expected, it’s good to see Sony being flexible this time around. The game has been thriving and is Sony’s real shot at making a mark in the live service space, so listening to the community is going to be vital moving forward.
As of writing, SteamDB has no updates yet about the game being reinstated in countries without official PSN support.
