Shuhei Yoshida Leaves PlayStation
Announced on the PlayStation Blog via an interview with Sid Shuman, Yoshida likens his announcement to that of “announcing the launch date of a new game,” which is something he hasn’t quite done in such a long time.
“I’ve been with PlayStation from the beginning, and this is my 31st year with PlayStation. And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, hmm, it may be about time for me to move on. You know, the company’s been doing great. I love PS5, I love the games that are coming out on this platform. And we have new generations of management who I respect and admire. And I’m so excited for the future of PlayStation.”
“So you know, PlayStation is in really good hands. I thought, okay, this is my time.”
Yoshida joined the Ken Kutaragi’s team back in February 1993, during the time that the original PlayStation was still in development. He made his presence felt even more during his time as the President of PlayStation Studios during the PS3 and PS4 era.
Recently, he’s been making strides in the indie scene by shining the spotlight on lesser-known titles as much as he can.
As for what’s next, Shuhei Yoshida mentions that he would “like to stay in the industry,” most likely helping indies make their mark in the gaming scene.
Congratulations and best wishes, Shuhei Yoshida!
