Switch 2 Confirmed by Nintendo to be Backwards Compatible

Nintendo has confirmed through an announcement that the Switch successor, tentatively referred to as the Switch 2, will be backwards compatible with the current system.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced during a Corporate Management Policy Briefing that current software on the Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the “successor” system. Alongside this confirmation, Nintendo Switch Online will also make it to the new system.
“This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

Nintendo has also confirmed that the announcement of the Switch 2 will happen before March 31, 2025, the end of their current fiscal year.
