Total War Celebrates 25 Years With Medieval III, Lords of the End Times, and Warcore

Creative Assembly and SEGA marked the 25th anniversary of the Total War franchise with a showcase packed with reveals, updates, and a glimpse into the future of strategy gaming.

The stream highlighted three major announcements: Total War: Medieval III, Total War: Warhammer III – Lords of the End Times, and the unveiling of the new Warcore engine, alongside a tease for a surprise reveal at The Game Awards.

Total War: Medieval III — A Return to Historical Roots

Fans of the franchise’s historical entries were treated to the long-awaited reveal of Total War: Medieval III. Currently in early pre-production, the game promises to be the ultimate medieval strategy sandbox, blending meticulous historical authenticity with unprecedented player agency.

Creative Assembly described it as both a tribute to the series’ legendary predecessors and a bold reinvention, allowing players to shape realms, rewrite history, and immerse themselves in the Middle Ages like never before.

Lords of the End Times — Warhammer III Expands

Coinciding with the Warhammer series’ 10th anniversary, the showcase unveiled the Lords of the End Times Pack for Total War: Warhammer III. Launching in Summer 2026, the expansion introduces four new Legendary Lords to the Immortal Empires campaign, starting with the return of the great necromancer Nagash.

The update also brings the free End Times Update, transforming the campaign with apocalyptic scenarios and cataclysmic events inspired by Warhammer lore. Creative Assembly emphasized that this is not the end for the Warhammer series, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in its evolution.

Warcore — The Next Evolution of Total War

The showcase also introduced Warcore, the next-generation engine powering future Total War titles. Built on 25 years of strategy innovation, Warcore promises more immersive, dynamic, and responsive gameplay.

In a franchise first, it will also enable future Total War releases on PlayStation and Xbox, expanding the series to a new generation of commanders.

A Tease for The Game Awards

To cap off the celebration, Creative Assembly teased a third major title that will be revealed at The Game Awards on December 12th. While details remain under wraps, the studio described it as one of the most ambitious projects in Total War history, signaling the start of an exciting new era.

Looking Ahead

Vice President of Total War, Roger Collum, reflected on the milestone: “It’s incredible to think Total War is 25 years old. We’re extremely grateful that we get to make games that our community get to play for decades, and without them we wouldn’t be here. Here’s to 25 more years!”
