Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Hands-off Preview
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a long-running, popular title from Bandai Namco, even receiving additional content as recently as earlier this year. It’s been a long time, and finally, the mysterious Age 1000 title has been revealed to be the next entry: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3.
During Summer Game Fest 2026 Bandai Namco offered a 30‑minute hands‑off preview of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, giving us a closer look at its expanded systems, new mechanics, and the futuristic setting of Age 1000.

During the preview, we started in the main character’s room, which served as a customizable home base. This place allows players to adjust their avatar’s look, tidy up the space, and prepare for missions.

Additionally, when creating and customizing characters, players can choose from various races, and the demo only showed Earthlings and Saiyans as the current choices, as the races offer distinct stats and abilities.

The Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 demo also showcased West City, a sprawling futuristic hub with flying cars and sky roads. Here, players can encounter new and familiar faces such as Brett, Future Trunks, and Gamma 1. Up to three companions can join you, forming a four‑character squad that you can go on an adventure with.

Combat retains the signature Dragon Ball flair, with flying, blasting, chaining combos, and breaking Ki to maximize damage. The demo showed combat against aliens, and it’s a familiar sight, especially if you’re familiar with Xenoverse 2. Customizing super attacks and abilities is still present, along with using environmental cover and strategizing squad skills. R2 plus a face button is used for Super Attacks, while L2 plus a face button is used for other abilities.

Towards the end of the demo, we got to witness a Broly boss mission, where his devastating Ki blast barrages forced players to dodge, guard, and counter with squad coordination. Broly showed off various attacks, such as raining down Ki blasts while players will need to hide behind environmental objects such as ice blocks to stay safe from the attack.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 introduces two new mechanics: Soul Assist, which allows players to call upon iconic Dragon Ball characters mid‑fight to unleash powerful support attacks that can turn the tide of combat. Meanwhile, Soul Switch takes things further by letting players temporarily transform into another character, such as Future Trunks, gaining access to new abilities and even restoring their health.

Closing out the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 demo, we were treated to a Super Saiyan 3 transformation, and while we didn’t get to see enough of what it could do, it’s great to know that the game is treating the game with faithfulness that goes beyond just having the Dragon Ball name plastered on its title.

While still early, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is showing potential as it takes a step forward for the series, offering expanded customization and new innovative mechanics that look set to deliver a fresh yet familiar Dragon Ball adventure.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
