Pokemon UNITE Will Shut Down on March 23, 2027

In a nutshell
- Pokemon UNITE will officially end service on March 23, 2027, across both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
- Sales of Aeos Gems and new UNITE Club memberships have already been suspended.
- A special farewell event and a new Library feature will launch on November 12, 2026, allowing players to preserve certain records and in-game content.
In a surprising announcement, The Pokemon Company has confirmed that Pokemon UNITE will officially end service on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC, bringing the popular free-to-play MOBA’s nearly six-year run to a close. The shutdown will affect both the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions of the game.
The development team expressed its gratitude to players who have supported the game since its Nintendo Switch launch on July 21, 2021, and promised several activities and features to celebrate the community before service ends.
Aeos Gem Sales and Memberships Have Already Been Suspended
As part of the shutdown process, Aeos Gem sales have been discontinued effective immediately. Players can still spend any remaining Gems they own until the game’s final day of service.
Additionally, Pokemon UNITE has stopped accepting new UNITE Club memberships and has disabled automatic renewals for existing subscribers. Current members will continue to receive benefits until the end of their active subscription periods.
Special Event and Library Feature Coming in November
Before the shutdown, Pokemon UNITE will receive an update on November 12, 2026 featuring a special farewell event and a new Library feature. During the event, players will be able to obtain various previously released items, including Unite licenses and Holowear.
The Library feature is designed to preserve parts of players’ experiences even after online services end. Those who download the required Library data before March 23, 2027, will be able to view certain records and in-game content after the game shuts down. Players who fail to download the necessary data before the deadline will lose access to the feature.
Competitive Play Will Continue Until the End
Despite the shutdown announcement, competitive support for the game will continue for several more months. The previously announced Pokemon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will proceed as planned, with qualifier events beginning on December 5, 2026.
The tournament will effectively serve as the final major competitive event for Pokemon UNITE before service officially concludes.
The End of an Era
Released in 2021 as a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and TiMi Studio Group, Pokemon UNITE brought the Pokemon franchise into the MOBA genre and built a dedicated competitive community over the years. The title continued to receive new Pokemon, events, and esports support throughout its lifespan, making today’s announcement particularly bittersweet for longtime players.
While the game still has several months left before its final shutdown, March 23, 2027, will mark the end of one of Pokemon’s most ambitious multiplayer projects to date.
