Grand Theft Auto 6 May Not Have a Physical Version on Day One, Claims Leaker
In a nutshell
- Reports suggest GTA 6 may launch digitally first to prevent early leaks.
- Physical copies could be delayed until after the initial release window.
- Rockstar and Take-Two are prioritizing security to protect one of the most anticipated titles in gaming history.
In what could be the biggest game release the industry has seen, Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive may choose to skip a physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on day one, a report claims.
The report comes from PPE.pl, which has previously leaked accurate information, such as the release date of Oblivion: Remastered physical copies.
The move is reportedly aimed at preventing leaks, which have plagued the franchise in the past. By focusing on a digital-first rollout, Rockstar could maintain tighter control over Grand Theft Auto 6’s release and narrative surprises.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Physical Copies Come After
A digital-only launch would be new for Rockstar, as the franchise has historically relied on massive physical sales. Physical copies often leak ahead of launch due to distribution and retail mishandling, giving players access to spoilers and unfinished content.
“We’re hearing more and more that the physical version won’t be released simultaneously with the digital version to prevent leaks.”
“We’re getting conflicting reports – some say the physical version will arrive three to four weeks after the digital release, while others say it won’t happen until early 2027. More information will be available in mid-February.”
While physical copies are still expected eventually, delaying them could help ensure that players have no way to experience the game before the expected release, maintaining the surprise and experience for everyone.

Take-Two has not officially confirmed this report.
