Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Arrive on Switch for Pokémon Day

The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will officially launch on the Nintendo Switch eShop on February 27, 2026.

The release is timed to celebrate Pokémon Day and the franchise’s monumental 30th anniversary.

Classic Adventure, Modern Platform

Originally released on the Game Boy Advance, FireRed and LeafGreen were enhanced remakes of the first Pokémon titles. Now, they’re making their way to Switch with faithful recreations of the original experience, including:

  • Exploring the Kanto region and completing the Pokédex.
  • Battling Gym Leaders and earning badges to become the Pokémon League Champion.
  • The Sevii Islands, offering additional Pokémon and post-game content.
  • Local wireless features via the Pokémon Wireless Club for trading and battling.

Support for Pokémon HOME is also coming soon, allowing trainers to transfer their caught Pokémon into the modern ecosystem.

Language-Specific Releases

In keeping with the original release style, each version will be sold in separate language SKUs with no in-game language options.

  • North America: English-only, French-only, Spanish-only.
  • PAL regions: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish.
  • Japan: Japanese-only.
