The Last of Us Part I has Gone Gold Ahead of its September 2 Release

Naughty Dog has announced that the upcoming remake, entitled The Last of Us Part I, has gone gold ahead of its September 2, 2022 release date.

In industry speak, going gold simply means that the game has been completed and is ready for printing on a disk. While this is the case, developers are still free to polish and fix some remaining bugs just in time for a day 1 patch, but the base game is indeed ready to be played.

Many Naughty Dog devs have started sharing the accomplishment on Twitter, hyping up the game even further for the players.

Lead Animator Michal Mach says that he can’t wait for players to experience an “ultimate version” of Part I.

Anthony Vaccaro, Principal Environment Artist, had some high praise, saying that he didn’t need to crunch to finish a game and that this is the first time in his 13 year career that it has happened.

He also says that they’ve hit the same quality bar as TLOU2, so there’s definitely a lot to expect when the game comes out in a few months.

The Last of Us Part I is said to be a total overhaul of the original experience and will receive various graphical and user experience improvements worthy of the series.

The Last of Us Part I is scheduled to release for the PS5 on September 2, 2022 and on PC at a later date.
