Assassin’s Creed is Finally Headed to Feudal Japan with ‘Codename RED’
During the recently concluded Assassin’s Creed Showcase, Ubisoft unveiled the future of the franchise with the announcement of the next two flagship games – Codename RED and Codename HEXE.
Codename RED will finally see the series go to Feudal Japan, a long-requested setting for fans of the series. It is described as the future of the open-world RPG and is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec (AC Odyssey), with Jonathan Dumont taking the lead as creative director.
The next flagship game is called Codename HEXE, and while there’s very little to go by, the key visuals suggest elements of magic and witchcraft involved.
Ubisoft Montreal will be handling the development of the game, with Clint Hocking as Creative Director.
Both games will fall under Codename INFINITY, which is a hub that will connect projects and players through different types of experiences.
As part of Codename INFINITY, multiplayer is also set to return as a standalone experience in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
In other Assassin’s Creed news, a new free-to-play AAA mobile game is also being developed. Called Codename JADE, the game will see the franchise head to Ancient China where players will be able to create their own characters and discover the story of the first Assassins in China.
There are a lot of Assassin’s Creed projects on the horizon, and fans of the series will have a lot to look forward to in 2023 and beyond.
