E3 2023 Officially Canceled
Announced just back in July 2022, E3 2023 is now calling it quits and has canceled the show scheduled in June, the organizers have announced.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and ReedPop have put out a statement saying that both physical and digital events have been canceled and that they “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”
Additionally, ReedPop’s Global VP of Gaming Kyle Marsden-Kish also released a statement:
This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.
The news of E3 2023’s cancelation follows repeated reports of publishers like Sony and Nintendo reportedly skipping the show. Microsoft has confirmed that they will be holding a showcase on June 11, and with the likes of SEGA and Level Infinite skipping, along with Ubisoft holding its presentation, it seemed that E3 2023 had it coming.
In light of this, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest will be pushing through, and it sort of serves a similar purpose to celebrate games during the same period.
