Filed in the Tokyo District Court, the lawsuit seeks an injunction to halt the alleged infringement and demands compensation for damages, claiming that the game infringes on multiple patent rights.
“Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights, including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.”
Palworld is a survival game that uses the mechanic of catching monsters, and was released early this year on Steam and Xbox to great results, garnering over 25 million players in its first month alone. While the game is different from the usual Pokemon installments, many have pointed out that the monster designs have glaring similarities.
The game is seemingly headed to PlayStation as Pocketpair is said to be participating in the Tokyo Game Show, possibly for an announcement.
