Sony Interactive Entertainment Also Affected
Sony Interactive Entertainment Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed that the layoffs extend beyond Bungie, affecting SIE teams supporting Bungie’s operations. Hulst emphasized that the decision came after extensive review of Bungie’s long‑term direction and portfolio role, noting that Marathon remains a key project alongside incubation efforts for future titles.
We have made the decision to reduce Bungie’s workforce, affecting a significant number of employees, including most of the Destiny team and some Marathon team members. There are also reductions across [Sony Interactive Entertainment] teams that support Bungie’s operations. Those impacted at Bungie and within [Sony Interactive Entertainment] are being informed today.

Bungie Leadership Changes
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also reports that Bungie studio head Justin Truman, who succeeded Pete Parsons in August 2025, is stepping down as part of the restructure. Bungie leadership expressed gratitude to affected employees and promised to share more about the studio’s future at a later date.
