Horizon Forbidden West on track for 2021, God of War Ragnarok maybe not
During a PS5 showcase last year, one of the biggest announcements was that of God of War Ragnarok, which surprisingly pegged a release date of 2021. Now whether or not players believed that it would release that soon is another story altogether, but it seems that it might not be the case anymore.
In a recent interview with GQ, PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan was quoted saying “we’re feeling pretty good about Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West,” when asked about the 2021 roadmap. This indicates that these 3 games are most likely sticking to their release dates this year.
Recently, Returnal got delayed to April 30 while Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be launching on June 11.
Curiously missing from Ryan’s statement? Oh, just some game called God of War, the follow up to the 2018 game of the year. Could it be something that was unintentional? Or maybe a hint that the game will not be releasing this year?
Industry reporter Jason Schreier seems to believe that a 2021 release is not in the cards.
Jim Ryan followed up his earlier statement by saying “there are two approaches to this: you can either hold the date and put out the game irrespective of quality or you can ship it when it’s right,” and if God of War is indeed not making it this year, then it would be in Sony’s best interest to ship it out when it is ready, knowing full well how big of an impact the game will have.
Speaking of delays, one confirmed delay is that of Gran Turismo 7, which will be making its way to PS5 consoles in 2022.
