Cyberpunk 2077 will be censored in Japan
Cyberpunk 2077 may be one of the most highly anticipated titles of the year, but that hasn’t stopped a region of the world from censoring a number of things in the game.
According to Australian site Press Start, the AU version won’t be censored in any way, which is surprising considering its history with previous titles, but the Japanese version of the game will get quite a number of changes based on its content.
As lifted from the site, the Japanese version will have the following changes:
- Added underwear to naked male/female characters
- Revised some sexually explicit content
- Selective revision of severing human body/exposed guts
- Revision/removal of billboard/graffiti shaped as genitals
Cyberpunk 2077 pushes certain boundaries not only in its gameplay, but also in customizing your character. Based on recent playthroughs by various media outlets worldwide, it has been confirmed that you can customize your genitals as well as pubic hair. Japanese fans will probably not see those options in the game, and other related sexual content may be pixelized or changed completely.
While it is a big part of being ‘immersed’ in the world, we’re certain that the game has much more to offer and that Japanese fans won’t feel shortchanged in terms of content, as this is CD Projekt Red we are talking about after all.
Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions to follow at a later date.
