Sony has Acquired Savage Game Studios, Announces PlayStation Studios Mobile Division
Sony has announced that they have entered into a “definitive agreement” with Savage Game Studios, a newly-formed mobile game development studio founded by industry veterans in the mobile gaming space.
As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the team behind Savage Game Studios will be joining the PlayStation Studios family and will work to provide high-quality mobile experiences for the PS community.
Savage Game Studios is led by Michail Katkoff (Rovio, Zynga, Supercell), Nadjim Adjir (Wargaming, Rovio), and Michael McManus (Wargaming, Insomniac), and are already working on an unannounced AAA mobile live service action game.
Katkoff says that they “believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide.”
This acquisition also signals the creation of the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, a new group that will operate independently from the console division and will focus on creating mobile games based on new and existing PlayStation IP.
Just a few months ago, Sony showed its intent to publish more games on PC with the acquisition of PC porting masters Nixxes Software, whose expertise was already reflected in the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for the PC.
