Call of Duty fans on the PlayStation won’t have to worry about the game disappearing after the Activision Blizzard acquisition deal is approved because Microsoft has committed to keeping the game on Sony’s platform for “several more years” beyond the existing deals.

According to a report from The Verge, Xbox Boss Phil Spencer himself has provided a statement saying that “In January, we provided a signed agreement to Sony to guarantee Call of Duty on PlayStation, with feature and content parity, for at least several more years beyond the current Sony contract, an offer that goes well beyond typical gaming industry agreements.”

Sony has ongoing marketing deals for Call of Duty right now and based on Spencer’s statements, they will be honoring those and much more. In fact, Microsoft seems to be giving a bit more than expected, since Spencer describes the offer as something that is “beyond typical gaming industry agreements.”

This deal is very different from the previous Bethesda acquisition, where some titles like Redfall and Starfield were immediately made exclusive.

Just how many years that will be is currently unknown, but players that prefer PlayStation can look forward to playing Call of Duty for years to come. Whether Microsoft makes them exclusive after the fact is something we’ll have to see, but for now, Call of Duty will remain multiplatform for years to come but will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass once the deal is done.
