In a nutshell

  • New Trailer: 15 minutes of gameplay revealed by Game Science
  • Focus: Mythological exorcist Zhong Kui, darker narrative than Wukong
  • Platforms: Planned for PC + major consoles, release date TBD

After its initial reveal last year, Game Science has now revealed a 15‑minute gameplay trailer for its next action RPG, Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

Unlike Wukong, which drew from Journey to the West, this new title centers on Zhong Kui, a legendary exorcist from Chinese folklore. The trailer provides a glimpse of gameplay and the protagonist.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui – A Darker Mythology in Focus

The footage teases a darker, judgment‑driven narrative, with poetic verses hinting at themes of memory, righteousness, and the underworld. Captured from a work‑in‑progress build, the trailer runs in a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio, showcasing combat and atmospheric storytelling.

Accompanying the trailer is a verse that reads:

With blood beneath my blade, I paint new rouge upon my face,
An old friend visits, in a dream taking place.
Old faces, bygone deeds, have vanished from my sight,
Still, I remember every one, by day and through the night.
Those bound by love grow old; the righteous road runs long;
Today’s notes of grace or grudge define not the final song.
Who says the Underworld is far away?
All the better—once more I’ll walk along.

Development and Release Timing

Game Science confirmed that Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a single‑player action RPG currently in early development. While platforms include PC and other major consoles, no release date has been announced.
