PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita Closing
In a nutshell
- PlayStation Store for PS3 begins closing in select markets August 2026, with global shutdown in July 2027.
- Players can still re‑download previously purchased content after closure.
- Decision driven by modern commerce updates and resource focus on PS4, PS5, and PS VR2.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita will be closing in phases, marking the end of an era for two beloved platforms.
The shutdown begins in August 2026 for select Latin American markets, followed by additional regions later in the year. By July 2027, the PlayStation Store will close globally for both PS3 and PS Vita.

What This PlayStation Store Closure Means for Players
While new content purchases will no longer be possible, Sony confirmed that players will still be able to download previously purchased games and DLC for the foreseeable future. This ensures that existing libraries remain accessible even after the store closures.
Sony explained that the decision stems from the need to update modern commerce systems and payment standards, which PS3 and PS Vita can no longer support.
Sony already backed out of an initial closure in 2021, but this time around, public outcry may not be enough to change the decision.

A Digital Future
Meanwhile, Sony also announced that starting January 2028, it will end physical game disc production, and all new PlayStation titles will be released digitally through the PlayStation Store and authorized retailers.
